Please be aware, any deductible an insured might have, must be used first, prior to the insurance company paying in any claim. If the amount of the claim determined by the adjuster and agreed upon with the insured, is less than the deductible, many carriers will penalize a claimant for making a claim even though there was no official payout of that claim because it was less than the deductible. This is called a "claim without payout". This does not imply that an insured should not file a claim, but sometimes it is prudent to get a professional review or estimate of repairs needed prior to the claim being made. Only an insured can determine the best course of action. All insurance carriers require that insureds take steps are taken to protect any further damage from happening before and after a claim takes place.
