Insuring your license (Broad form Insurance policy) is for customers who currently don’t own a vehicle to insure, but still drive a vehicle occasionally or do not want to have a lapse in insurance coverage between vehicle ownership. Broad form is a basic liability policy.
Coverage: It typically only includes the minimum liability coverage required by the state, protecting you against damage or injury you cause to other people and their property. Optional coverages like Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and uninsured/underinsured motorist can often be added.
Exclusions: It does not cover damage to the vehicle you are driving (no collision or comprehensive coverage), your own injuries (unless PIP is added), or other drivers who might borrow your car. The policy only covers the named insured driver.
Who it's for:
Drivers who frequently borrow or rent cars but don't own one.
Individuals who need an affordable way to meet state-mandated insurance requirements, often for an SR-22 certificate.
Employees who drive a company car but do not own a personal vehicle.
Drivers who own an older vehicle and can afford to pay for any physical damage out of pocket.
Availability: Broad form auto insurance is not available in all states.
